Abstract
This research
work titled the problems facing small scale hotel in Enugu. The researcher examined
the role of small scale hotels in the development of Enugu state.Evaluated the
effect government policies on the development of small scale hotels in Enugu
state.Examined the contribution of small scale hotels in the reduction of unemployment
rate in Enugu State. The researcher also identified the various factors
militating against the operation of small scale hotels in Enugu state. Data for the study was
collected using primary and secondary methods of data collection. For the
primary data collection, questionnaire was used while existing literature
relevant to the topic was consulted for the secondary data. The sample size was
determined using Taro Yamani formula the percentage method was used for data
analysis while Chi-square statistical mode was used to test the formulated
hypothesis. The researcher found out that the role of small scale hotels in the
development of Enugu state includes contributing to reducing the rate of
unemployment in the state, payment of taxes and industrial development.It was
also observed that government policies affect the development of small scale hotels
in Enugu state.The study shows that small scale hotels contributes to a large
extent in the reduction of unemployment rate in Enugu State.The researcher
equally discovered that the various factors militating against the operation of
small scale hotels in Enugu state is classified under two categories which are;
Government policies and environmental factors. Based on the findings, the researcher recommends
that Management
should always determine the causes of failure of small scale hotel in
Nigeria.Government should try as much as possible to provide/create a conducive
environment for business activities.Workers should ensure that they abide by
the rules, regulations, policies laid down by the management.
