Abstract
This research
work titled the level of nutritional deficiency in cat fish [examination of
protein and minerals]. The researcher critically examined the level of
nutritional deficiency in cat fish. Ascertained the effect of the identified
nutritional deficiency on human health. And also proffer possible solutions on
the management of the deficiencies. The usual method of determining crude
protein in meat, cake products etc is by macro kjeldah method. The crude
protein value is obtained by multiplying the nitrogen value by 6.25 and the
value for apparent total meat is obtained by converting the protein in the
sample (eg cake, meat, fish etc) to the relevant factor. The value of total
cake meat is based on the assumption that nitrogen is derived from meat, fish,
cake, protein, however, this analysis does not distinguish between cake, meat
and other non-meat sources of protein. Based on the results the researcher
recommends that aqua feeds should be based on locally
available feedstuff, simple and cheap methods of increasing their nutritional
value with particular reference to digestibility, removal of toxic substances
(antinutritional factors) and palatability. In addition, efforts should be made
towards the development and improvements of simple and cheap machinery for aqua
feed production as well as improve the techniques for processing and storage;
without compromising environmental quality.
