ABSTRACT
The study
x-rayed the problems facing National Health Insurance Scheme in Nigeria. It was
designed to look into the reason for the introduction of national health insurance
scheme, problems the management is facing, challenge and prospects. However,
primary data was collected through questionnaire by the researcher. The data
was analyzed with the aid of statistical instrument such as frequency tables,
tabulation percentage and chi-square method. Moreover, the national health
insurance scheme protects families from financial hardship of huge medical
bills. It was discovered that NHIS has reduced the rising cost of health care
delivery services in Nigeria. The research made recommendations based on the
findings including creating awareness campaigns educating people on the purpose
of the scheme, more insurance practitioners and professional should also cover
aspects such as pollution and good manufacturing practice that will make the
environment safe. The researcher believe that if these recommendations were
judiciously implemented the scheme (NHIS) will achieve it’s objectives.
