ABSTRACT The study was to evaluate the recruitment
practices and employee performance among staff in manufacturing companies. The
specific objectives include to: Examine the relationship between favouritism in
recruitment and product quality and Examine the relationship between attracting
and maintaining the right people in the organization and staff productivity. The
study had a population of 4430 employees drawn from among selected
manufacturing firms in Enugu State. The sample size of 350 was drawn using
Freud and Williams formula at 5 percent error margin. A survey design was
adopted for the study. Instrument used for data collection was the
questionnaire. A total of 350 copies of questionnaire were distributed while 298
were returned. Two hypotheses were tested using f-statistic (ANOVA). The findings indicated that Examine the
relationship between favouritism in recruitment and product quality F(95,n =350)=1011.965,P<0.05;and
Examine the relationship between attracting and maintaining the right people in
the organization and staff productivity F(95,n =350)=5436.008,P<0.05;The study
concluded that favouritism in recruitment does not encourage product quality in
the organization. Attracting and maintaining the right people in the
organization increases productivity and recruiting the best candidates and the
output of the organization is optimized. The study recommended favouritism in
recruitment should be discouraged for maximium result in the organizations and
attracting and maintaining the right people in the organization should be
paramount importance of any organization to achieve better result and growth.
