AbstractThis research work
titled “Urbanization and tourism: a path to economic development. The
researcher evaluated the impact urbanization on the economic development of
Nigeria. Examined the effect of tourism
on economic development of Nigeria. Ascertained the relationship between
urbanization, economic growth and economic growth.Data for the
study was sourced from two main sources which include Primary and Secondary
sources of data Collection. Primary data: questionnaires and oral interviews
were used to collect information from the respondents. Secondary data:
journals, and other relevant materials relating to the area of my investigation
will be review. Extensive literature review was carried out on the direct
literature and indirect literature on books, journals and past works. At the
end of the study the researcher fund out that Urbanization and tourism is very
important in the development of Nigerian economy. It was also discovered that
there is significant relationship between Urbanization, tourism and economic
growth of Nigeria. It was equally identified that there are so many factors
militating against effective development of tourism in Nigeria. Urbanization
and tourism has contributed a lot to the socio-economic development of Nigeria
economy. Based on the findings, the researcher recommends that Government
should embrace public-private- partnership in order to develop tourism sector.
The government needs to diversify revenue base in order to encourage
socio-economic development of every locality. There is immediate need to make
policy that will facilitate local economic development of all the rural areas
through which grass root development could be guaranteed. Government,
individuals and corporate organizations such as NGOs take active part in the
development of tourism to stimulate infrastructural development and job
creation.
