ABSTRACT
Methamphetamine
addiction has so much consequence not just on the abuser but on the society as
a whole and the family members in particular. This study focused on the
sociological effects of mkpuru-mmiri consumption in the society, using Ezeagu
Local Government Area as its study area. The research questions include the
following: Have you heard of
mkpuru-mmiri in Ezeagu Local Government Area. Who consumes mkpuru-mmiri in
Ezeagu Local Government Area. What are the effects of the consumption of
mkpuru-mmiri in Ezeagu Local Government Area. What are the measures to take in
order to solve the problems created through the sell and consumption of
mkpuru-mmiri in Ezeagu Local Government Area. The theoretical framework adopted from the
study is differential association theory. Here the research adopted the
descriptive survey design using frequency tables and simple percentages . Taro
Yamane formula was used to determine the sample size which constituted of 350
respondents. The researcher used questionnaire as the instrument to elicit
information from the respondents.. The study revealed that; the people of the research area have
knowledge of the presence and that both the young and old residents of the
research area do mkpuru-mmiri. The finding also shows that there are health
consequences that the users go through such as depression, madness, etc. Based
on the findings, it was recommended that; There should be proper
orientation of our youths on the dangers associated with drug abuse
(Mkpuru-mmiri). This measure should be embarked upon by heads of the various
villages, religious organizations, governmental agencies and all registered
associations and clubs in the society in their orientation programmes which
should be organize for youths as this
will enable them avoid the doing of illicit drugs.
