AbstractThe
study examined the role of insurance in enhancing business performance in
Nigeria. The study specifically examined the role of insurance industry premium
on business performance of the manufacturing sector in Nigeria, examined the
role of insurance industry premium on business performance of the real estate
sector in Nigeria and also assessed the role of insurance industry premium on business
performance of the agriculture sector in Nigeria. The research employed ex-post
facto method. Data for the study was sourced from published annual reports and
account of National Insurance Commission (NAICOM). Data collected were analysed
using multiple regression analysis, result of the analysis showed that
insurance industry premium did play a significant role towards the business
performance of the manufacturing sector in Nigeria, it was also observed that
insurance industry premium did play a significant role towards the business
performance of real estate sector in Nigeria, the study further revealed that
insurance industry premium did play a significant role towards business
performance of agriculture sector in Nigeria based on the findings, the study
recommended that the insurance industry through new research should identify
the emerging risk challenges facing manufacturing firms and design policies
that suit them. This will help the manufacturing sector to immediately these
issues arise to have cover against them. This can boost their performance. The
insurance industry should improve the enforcement of property
insurance, occupiers liability insurance, builders liability insurance and
contractors all risk insurance by involving community task force that go round
each community to ask for levy of anyone building on their land. Agriculture
extension officers should be used as liason officers to inculcate the practice
